Stepping Away From Social Media

You may've noticed over the past few months, I've not been very active on social media. I decided to take more time for myself and see how stepping away from social media would affect my mental health.

I'd noticed I'd fallen into the trap of comparing myself and my life to the lives of others on Instagram and I'd had enough. Taking time out from social media to enjoy other things has been really beneficial and I'd recommend everyone give it a go now and then.

I noticed I was no longer seeing life through a filter, thinking of how would this look on an Instagram post etc and I was just doing things for the simplicity of enjoying them.

While I felt very disconnected initially, it felt strange not to wake up and immediately start scrolling through Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, it wasn't long before I began to enjoy my mornings without social media getting in the way. I began to enjoy days out without thinking about posting to Instagram at all.

I know social media is a very important tool for a blogger, and while my traffic did decrease slightly, I noticed people were still reading my blog even though I wasn't promoting it every day and this made me feel a lot better.

Anyway, I took two months break from social media and I felt a hell of a lot better for doing it. I'm back to it now though, but I'm seeing things differently to how I did before, social media only gives you snippets of people's lives, not the whole package and this sense of clarity is one that will stay with me as I continue to use these platforms again.

Have you ever taken a break from social media?

That's all for today,
