My Guide To Self-Care

Self care means different things to different people, but it's all about looking after yourself. I've put together a guide on self-care for those of you who are making it your goal to take care of yourself more this year.

Because sometimes we forget to look after ourselves and value our own importance.

Have at least three meals a day:

I can't stress the importance of this one, try and make sure you have at least three meals a day and you'll find you have the energy to take on the day.

Set aside time to relax:

The most important part of your day should be when you switch off your work-brain and just relax. You could pursue your favourite hobby, I've banged on about that enough this year, or you could just chill and watch netflix, or have a bubble bath. Whatever it is that relaxes you, do it.

Write down three positives about your day:

At the end of each day I make the effort to find three things that were positive about it and I make a note of it in a journal. That way you train your brain to see the good in each situation as well as having something to look back on at the end of the month or year.

Remember to take any medication:

A simple but important point is remembering to take any medication your prescribed. This should be at the top of your self-care list.

Surround yourself with positivity:

You can't expect to be happy if you're surrounding yourself with negativity all the time, make the effort to surround yourself with all things positive.

Cut out toxic people:

Surround yourself with good friends and good people, leave the toxic ones in the past.

Skincare Routine:

Either in the morning, or at night, set aside time to do a skincare routine. You'll find it makes you feel a whole lot better about yourself and your skin will thank you for it as well.

Spend some time outdoors each day:

If you're like me and you're glued to your laptop or phone 24/7 it'll do you a world of good to get out at least once each day, even if that's just to pop to the shop. A bit of fresh air will help make you feel so much more motivated, and that in turn will make you feel so much better about yourself.

Switch off your phone in the evening - have a social media detox.

If you're like me and you're scrolling through instagram or twitter every twenty minutes, it might do you some good to switch off your phone every now and then and give your mind a rest. You'll find it so much easier to get to sleep that way.

Hot chocolate before bed:

So, this is one for personal taste, but something I love to do is make myself a nice hot chocolate before I switch my phone off ready for bed.

Let me know your self-care tips in the comments section below.
