January Recap: A rambling post.

17:50

2017 is off to a good start, both in life and all things blogging. Emotionally, I'm feeling so much better: I love the New Year, Fresh Start malarkey as it gives me an excuse to drop old negative thought patterns and make the most of what I have. This post is just me personally recapping on January, and the positive steps I've made in 2017 so far.

Education:
I've completed my first assignment for my Public Relations course. Finally. I'd been putting it off, as I don't want to fail, but then I reconsidered and getting at least a pass is better than giving up. (Why couldn't I have had this mindset at college?!) I don't know where exactly this will lead me yet, but at least after this course I'll at least feel competent enough to start a digital marketing apprenticeship or do another course and go to Uni or something. I still don't know what I want to do with my life, but who says there only has to be one answer?

The blog:
The blog is back on form, and I actually earnt a small amount from it this month; that's a first. I'm thinking of upping my game a bit, by sending pitches out to companies again (something I haven't done in a long while). My readership's gone back up, and I've statistically had the best January since starting my blog - although I haven't managed to surpass May 2016's peak yet...
Twitter chats are much easier for me to take part in now...I actually enjoy them. I was very nervous at first; what's the correct way to respond? What am I supposed to say? Then I thought about it more, and realised that extra stage of thinking wasn't necessary, scanning & re-scanning what I've typed to someone; it's a waste of effort and energy... and sucks the fun right out of talking, so I've started putting what I want to put and sending it & so far, I've had some lovely conversations with other bloggers, and my confidence is improving because of it.

2 Year Celebrations:
I celebrated being with my boyfriend for two years last week by going to see A Day To Remember in concert. I had so much fun, it felt like it'd been too long since I'd had such a good time. We were in the raging sea of a crowd for both Neck Deep, and A Day To Remember, but couldn't see the point in being a part of the school of surging sardines for the other two supports (that neither of us really listen to) New Found Glory & Moose Blood. There was confetti, inflatables, crowd surfing, flashy lights and a host of other things that only served to make me feel more in awe, more in the moment. It was even socially acceptable to drink WKD! And they served Jaeger and Monster in a cup with ice! Oh, I also went to a bar...in a city! I also found inspiration for a maybe sellable print in future, so that's a bonus.

(Please excuse the poor photography)

Writing:
I've managed to write a bit more on the book I'm working on this month too; it's about my social understandings and perception in relation to modern youth culture. I'm hoping that maybe, possibly, people reading it will be able to apply a lot of what I discuss to themselves. I'm struggling to initally set the scene with enough seeds planted for the events that unfold, but the skeleton is all there for me to go back to and beef up.

Budgeting:
The fact that I've saved £100 this month is a step in the right direction. I had a look at bank statements, and calculated that I was spending double what I'd spend in Asda in the Co-Op and with Asda, there's more to show for that money. It's more of a walk, but I've now seen now just how much it does save. More money saved = a bigger rainy day fund. I'm also going to start using cashback apps again as I discussed in my living for less series last year, if my phone storage memory allows it.

All in all, things are going pretty well, it feels like I'm going back up the happiness slope. I'm learning that I don't have to be perfect to be happy, and you really can do whatever you want in life. Things like expectations and insecurities don't have to define you if you just use them as fuel to let them push you on to better.
